Toon Saerens (°1955) studeerde schilderkunst en monumentale kunsten aan de Koninklijke Academies voor Schone Kunsten van Antwerpen en Gent. Hij woont en werkt in Kalmthout (Antwerpen).

De kunstenaar onderzoekt verschillende vormen van representatie. Hij is geboeid door de ambiguïteit van het beeld en de mechanismen van de perceptie. De leugens in waarheid en de waarheid in liegen.

Het vervormen en hercoderen van de beelden nodigt de toeschouwer uit tot een andere, non-duale benadering van de werkelijkheid. De kunstenaar werkt dikwijls in ‘oneindige’ reeksen, met van het internet geplukte en grafisch bewerkte foto’s. Hij gebruikt thema’s uit de politieke, religieuze en sociaalpsychologische realiteit. Ironie en sarcasme zijn zijn wapens tegen een soms cynische wereld.

The distortion and re-coding of the images invites the viewer to a different, non-dual approach to reality. The artist often works in ‘infinite’ series, with photographs plucked from the internet and graphically edited. He uses themes from political, religious and socio-psychological reality. Irony and sarcasm are his weapons against a sometimes cynical world.
