Photos INVOLVED Theaterplein – Vogelenmarkt

De installatie INVOLVED Theaterplein bestond uit 36 banners die rond de zuilen van het Theaterplein in Antwerpen werden gewikkeld. Op de doeken stonden 70 uit actualiteitsfoto’s uitgesneden en grafisch bewerkte prints van mensen in actie tijdens rellen op verschillende plaatsen in de wereld.

INVOLVED Theaterplein werd gerealiseerd door vzw Purperpaars, met de steun van het district Antwerpen. De installatie was vrij toegankelijk en doorlopend te bekijken van 30 augustus tot 15 oktober 2019. Tijdens de weekends hingen de prints middenin de drukte van de populaire ‘Vogelenmarkt’.

The installation INVOLVED Theaterplein consisted of 36 banners that were wrapped around the columns of the Theaterplein in Antwerp. The canvases featured 70 prints, cut out from press photos and graphically edited, of people in action during riots in various places around the world.

INVOLVED Theaterplein was produced by vzw Purperpaars, with the support of the district of Antwerp. The installation was freely accessible and continuously viewable from 30 August to 15 October 2019.  During the weekends, the prints hung in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the popular ‘Vogelenmarkt’

Tegenover de inertie die ontstaat in een zichzelf materieel bevredigende samenleving plaatst INVOLVED de dynamiek van het verweer, van verandering. Bewogenheid tegenover onbewogenheid. De van hun context ontdane beelden dragen nog de spanning van het moment. Ze storen, ze dreigen. Het is bevroren woede. Maar ook teer als een bloem. Kantelen tussen wanhoop en hoop. INVOLVED nodigt uit om bewust en betrokken te kijken. Het herinnert er ons aan dat de wereld nooit af is.

In opposition to the inertia that arises in a materially self-satisfying society, INVOLVED places the dynamics of the revolt, of change. Movement as opposed to immobility. The images, stripped of their context, still carry the tension of the moment. They disturb, they threaten. It is frozen anger. But also as delicate as a flower. Tilting between hope and despair. INVOLVED invites you to look consciously and involved. It reminds us that the world is never finished.
